Findings

  • Thin sample. The file has fewer than 25 valid trades. Treat conclusions as early evidence and collect more paper/demo observations.
  • Outlier dependence. A small group of trades explains a large share of the absolute outcome. Review whether the result depends on unusual events.

What the analyzer checks

The analyzer reads a closed-trade log and answers a narrow question: is there enough clean evidence here to keep researching this strategy? It does not predict future returns. It checks the data first, then the shape of the results.

  • Data quality. Rows with missing or non-numeric profit are excluded and counted. Unsorted rows are put in time order before drawdown is measured.
  • Sample depth. Fewer than 25 valid trades is treated as thin evidence, regardless of how good the numbers look.
  • Outlier dependence. If a handful of trades explain most of the result, the report says so.
  • Cost sensitivity. Fees and commissions are compared with the average trade to show how much of the edge costs consume.

File format

Any CSV with one row per closed trade works. The header row needs a profit column; the other columns are optional but improve the report. Recognized names include:

  • Profit: pnl, profit, profit_loss, net, net_pnl, pl
  • Costs: fees, commission, commissions, cost, costs, swap
  • Time: closed_at, close_time, exit_time, time, date, timestamp
  • Instrument: symbol, instrument, pair, market
  • Size: volume, lots, size, qty, quantity

Exporting from MetaTrader 5

In MT5, open the History tab in the Toolbox, switch the view to Positions, then right-click and choose Report to export it as an Open XML spreadsheet. Open the file, keep the closed positions table, and save it as CSV. The Positions view gives one row per closed trade, which is what the analyzer expects. Avoid the Deals view: it lists entries and exits separately, and the zero-profit entry rows would distort the win rate.

For Strategy Tester results, export the backtest report the same way and keep the trades table. Read the guide to the MT5 tester report for what each summary figure means.

Privacy

The file never leaves your device. Parsing and every calculation run in your browser, so the analyzer works the same with your network disconnected after the page has loaded. Do not include account numbers or broker login details in the file; the analyzer does not need them.

Questions

Is my trade history uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and analyzed inside your browser. Only a saved report in a signed-in Evidence Desk workspace stores a compact summary.

How many trades do I need?

The analyzer flags anything under 25 valid trades as thin. Conclusions about profit factor or win rate usually need well over 100 trades to settle.

Does it work with backtest exports?

Yes, as long as the CSV has one row per closed trade and a profit column. Strategy Tester trade tables saved as CSV work.
